Tell Me About It Thursday – First of the Summer

Hello Internet!

I have been thinking of ways to spice up these weekly posts and I decided to tell you all not only what I’ve been doing but also what I have been reading and listening to! Let me know what you think of the new format, I’m always open to constructive criticism.

What I’ve been doing…

I’ve been on summer break for about two months and tomorrow I will be starting my third month! It’ll be weird going back to school and working my butt off again. However, I’ll be living with my best friends so I’m actually looking forward to starting my sophomore year and going on more adventures and creating more inside jokes (and Mr. Darcy bathroom shrines) with my favorite ladies! Unfortunately, I will not be joining the equestrian team next semester because of the expenses and time conflicts, although I do plan on taking lessons from the same barn I rode at last semester.  Now that I’m (quite literally) back in the saddle I won’t be getting off anytime soon!

Recently I started working at a clothing store that shall not be named, and it is very different from my previous job. I learned how to use computer-based register systems and figured out how to fold jeans so that they lay perfectly on displays. Unfortunately, I haven’t received a penny for the work I’ve done this past month. I’m hoping that I will be getting paid tomorrow, but with my luck, something will go horribly wrong. Another problem I’ve had lately is how little I am actually working. Yes, I was hired to work part-time so I do understand that I will not be working long hours every day of the week, but working more than two shifts every weekend would be nice. I was not scheduled to work this week and since I am going on vacation for the entirety of next week I will not be working for a total of two weeks. TWO. WEEKS. Well, three if you count last week. Needless to say, I won’t be keeping this job past the summer, but I did gain some of the coveted “experience” that could get me hired at a more reliable establishment.  Hopefully next week I will be able to tell you all that I got paid – please send good vibes my way…

What I’ve been reading….

This month I have read a total of nine books. Here’s what I read and what I rated it:

  1. Vicious by V. E. Schwab (4 stars)
  2. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire (4 stars)
  3. Dark Lover by J. R. Ward (4 stars)
  4. March (Book 1) by John Lewis (5 stars)
  5. The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas (5 stars – no surprise there)
  6. March (Book 2) by John Lewis (5 stars)
  7. Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli (5 stars)
  8. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa (4 stars)
  9. Lover Eternal by J. R. Ward (4 stars)

As you all know, I’m a huge fantasy nerd. I love magic, swordfights, and monsters. However, I have been craving cheesy grocery store romance books. More specifically, the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I initially picked up Dark Lover because, at her signing, Sarah J. Maas recommended the series (so you know I had to check it out). I am thoroughly impressed with this series because it’s cheesy but not cringey, and romantic but not cliche. J. R. Ward really knows how to create some loveable characters.

Overall, this month has been a productive reading month! I have managed to keep myself out of a reading slump which is amazing due how depressed I become during the summer. I have been sticking to short books for this summer because the instant gratification helps me keep up my motivation to read.

What I’ve been listening to…

I love listening to soft folk music so the main bands/artists I listen to are Bon Iver, The Lumineers, Hozier, Dotan, and Imagine Dragons. Coincidentally, I have a song from each of these artists that I’ve been loving this month:

1. Beth / Rest by Bon Iver (Link: )

This song has a really chill 80’s vibe to it which is perfect for driving around on rainy summer days.

2.  Flowers in Your Hair by The Lumineers (Link: )

I only recently got into The Lumineers, but this song encompasses my entire aesthetic and I love it.

3.  Jackie and Wilson by Hozier (Link: )

I adore Hozier, and I included an actual video for the song so you all can enjoy this beautiful man. (Honestly, he’s total boyfriend material.)

4.  7 Layers by Dotan (Link: )

I rarely come across albums where I love every song on it, and 7 Layers by Dotan is one of those albums. I love driving to this album.

5.  Believer by Imagine Dragons (Link: )

This song has been on my writing playlist this month and has really shaped the overall vibes of the book I’ve also been writing this month!

Feel free to check these out and let me know what you think! I am always accepting recommendations, too.

That’s all, folks! I hope you all enjoyed the first (and very late) Tell Me About It Thursday of the summer! Let me know if there’s anything you want to see in next week’s post!
